If the club genuinely believes sesko is a CF who will fire us to titles we should’ve offered more money in Jan. If we don’t believe he’s that guy we shouldn’t be signing him in the summer either.

The whole ‘we’ll do it in the summer’ mindset is not consistently reliable. Last summer we tried to get sesko and failed. Then spent 2 months focusing on lesser priority positions and the window slammed shut.

This idea that because it’s summer we will get all the players we want, at fees we like, is naive. We could just as well end up come summer deadline day again scrambling to sign makeshift forward loans like we did last summer due to poor planning and resource allocation.

I don’t propose we regularly overbid for players in Jan but I do think this Jan was an exceptional situation. Everyone and the world knows we were both numerically and quality wise one excellent forward away from significantly boosting our title and CL chances this year.

We can talk about not wanting to overpay but what’s the financial impact if Arsenal paid 15m over the odds in Jan then won a major trophy? There’s prize money on the table which will cover that extra 15m. There’s the impact on commercials with us being a trophy winning team. And if said forward doesn’t settle quickly at least they’ll be totally ready for next season so we don’t have another 6 months bedding in process next season.

Meanwhile as others have said, what happens when other clubs start bidding for our forward targets in the summer? Price gets driven up anyway. That price increase is potentially the same as the January premium anyway…We had to pay 100m for rice because city were bidding. Chelsea paid 115m for caiceido because pool were bidding. This also assumes the player ends up choosing us in the end as well which they might not depending on who else is bidding

I’m not saying it’s easy to get these deals over the line in Jan, I just think the mindset of being cash rich in Jan but failing to be able to sign anyone when we desperately need it is a pretty negative reflection on the clubs planning and execution

I don’t know if the guys city signed will turn out any good, but they demonstrated when you have cash in hand it’s not rocket science to sign players in Jan. And that’s a team which can’t sell the prospect of a title race to those players this season and they have the 115 hanging over them.

Meanwhile Villa got loan deals done.

But for Arsenal it’s apparently so much more complicated. Don’t buy it, sorry

A very special word of praise goes to our RC Captain, now at Cardiff,Arron Ramsey for winding up the Orcs in Mordor yesterday (Stoke) & knocking them out.A small slice of Karma.Which wound them up no end.The classless ,inbred b' stards were chanting ' he walks with a limp'-15 years after the Neanderthal Shawcross leg breaker.
