I counted 29 clips in this video, so 30+ opportunities he's failed to get the maximum of. Some half chances, some big chances. I noticed he had the option, multiple times, to pass to a free player for an easy tap-in on empty goal but he didn't do it, yet the fans are enraged about that one time Saka took the ball and converted the penalty, or that one time Saka decided to finish the attack himself, or that one time Odegaard picked the best pass instead of trying a hopeful through ball to a player with coordination issues who goes down like a sack of potatoes about 5 times per game.
But that's what the fans celebrated - a greedy striker. He was lauded for his desire to score goals. Yet his overall game is a total zero. But that didn't matter one bit to the fans. "He scores goals" they said. "I'm tired of playing midfielders at CF, it's time for a real striker" they said as they watched a compilation of his goals against teams collectively valued at the valuation of one Fabio Vieira (€30m) or less.
Watch the video and tell me again how Gyokeres has been starved of chances. Watch the video and tell me again how Arteta is the one to blame for the shocking performances of a player way out of his depth. Watch the video and tell me again how it's too early to judge him. Watch the video and tell me again how pathetic I am for banging the drum of the huge mistake we made of signing a player who has no business competing for the PL and CL trophies.
The Berta special strikes again after Joao Felix, Jackson Martinez, Lemar, washed out Diego Costa for 2x the fee he sold him to Chavs. €300m in total for 4 massive flops.
Same as Gyokeres, he's received unconditional love. I hope he learns from his mistakes but most of all, I hope he's given less power after he turned the world around to secure the Swede.
To be fair this video has had extensive coverage on X,,posted by Arsenal fans and tbh there are a number of failings in his play as also pointed out by Pedro (more than once)>
I think generally many fans thought Gyokeres would have fared a lot better by now .
We know, he’s massively underperforming and it’s doesn’t take a footballing genius to point it out. Rap whines about every 3 hours like he’s breaking new ground every time.
Gyokeres, Eze and Martinelli in the lineup against a team defending deep wasn't ideal but it was an opposition they still should have performed better against. I guess Arteta wanted to give a breather to Merino and Tross when Eze is, at the moment, probably a low-touch, high-impact player. He's a game-changer but he needs help. His ability to perform against low blocks is under a big question mark. He's more useful against teams that open up.
Arsenal strengthened their squad this season with decent cover in most positions. However, despite recruiting eight new players our injury record has not diminished.
Even worse most of our injury cycles were critical. First we lost a considerable number of players in our attack and now the same has arisen in defence. Let us hope that by the start of
the New Year most of our injured players are back to fitness.
We have got 4 difficult games in the next 12 days. Everton, Crystal Palace, Brighton and Aston
Villa will not be easy for different reasons. Everton are always difficult at home. CP are a good
cup team, Arsenal are always struggling against Brighton and Aston Villa are at the moment a
form team.
It is important that we get through those games with a modicum of damage limitation following
a poor performance against Wolves. I made the case after that game that Arsenal dropped too many points/goals at end of games through lack of leadership and control on pitch.
Ironically Declan Rice expressed similar views after the game in dressing room. It is high time
that Arsenal make the correct decision on captaincy. We need someone who leads by example
when we are struggling. Both Odegaard and Saka are not in my view that person.
Is it too much to say that the vast majority of the fan base think that Rice should be captain? I get the feeling that it would be too political to 'demote' Odegaard unless we were selling him. It'd probably go to Saka then but Rice really seems to be the best choice
I still don't like him. He doesn't have the stamina or physicality to play end to end football and that's how it is in the biggest games against the best sides. I don't think he's a top player. The less space he has to cover, the better he performs, hence he's better against defensive teams.
I'd rather have players able to influence all games, against all opponents regardless of the game state - like Saka, like Havertz, like Jesus. Even Trossard looks great in most scenarios nowadays.
I don't want the successor of Ode to be suffering from the same issues Ode does. I want a more complete player than Cherki. He's static, he's lazy, he doesn't cover enough space. The moment you buy players like him, you're blocking the path for superior talent. I don't want a Kovacic to City moment.
Sancho is a similar player and we saw how that went. Every singing is important and inflicts long-term consequences. It's why I absolutely hate the Gyokeres signing. I despise it.
It would be good if you could get over your pathetic and constant obsession with players you like- Havertz, Merino,Trossard and previously Nketiah and Vieira. Trossard, for example, might be our version of Rashford.Often nondescript in games, then comes up with a goal or assist, for example, was the worst player on the pitch at Fulham, then shinned in the only goal of the game. Can't beat his defender, can't cross with his left foot and is a liability if and when he tracks back into defence. Now, your solution for the New Year is a front three of Havertz, Trossard and Saka! Only the latter is pure class. In the Premiership, the left flank is dysfunctional, with no-one in defence, midfield or attack able to pose the same "threat" as down the right where we play constantly.
Nketiah - cause everyone flamed him when he didn't deserve it. Academy player. Third or fourth choice striker at Arsenal. Gave his all. Was always available. Fought for the badge. Cashed us in some sweet money. He deserved none of the flame at all. You won't hear me say he should have been our number 1 choice CF but he was much better than the majority of fans thought - you lot wanted us to sell him for 15m to Marseille cause you thought he's worthless, then a couple of weeks later he fetched us double that. I even said he's leaving at the right time for both us and himself. But reading comprehension is hard.
Vieira - I backed in exactly one season - 24/25 when we decided to sell or loan Smith-Rowe, Nelson, Nketiah, and it made all the sense in the world to have him back both Ode and Saka. It turned out well for Nwaneri but in the grand scheme of things, we lost so many points last season and Fabio would have surely helped. Was never a fan of him, just consider him better in the final third than Ode and with the struggles we were surely going to face last season, due to selling/loaning attacking talent without replacing it, he would have been useful. I'm glad he's gone. He needed to be a really special player to compensate his lack of physicality and he wasn't.
Merino - static but has an incredible brain, such a smart player, lethal, fantastic skills to be where he needs to be, what is required of him, can play at multiple positions, unbelievable in the air, fantastic vision. Not a perfect player due to the lack of pace. Would always prefer Havertz to him at CF but as an additional threat at AM, yes. If we're attacking a deep block, just get him in the box and deliver quality balls. He's an obvious solution to a big problem.
Trossard - I wanted us to get an upgrade at LW this summer, it turns out, with the quality he's shown this season, he's almost as important as Saka. I don't think any LW we could have bought would have had the impact Leo has had. Attaboy!
Havertz - a unicorn player. Can do it all, can help in about 2421000 different ways - smart, strong, quick, technical. Terrorizes the best defenders in the world, scores crucial goals, assists, wins duels, fantastic at link up plays. Can score in transition, can drop deep to help with build up, can play on the shoulder of the last defender, has great positioning in the box even against packed defences. The sooner he comes back, the sooner our crusade of becoming the best team in the world starts.
Ok let's agree to differ. Nketiah was invariably coming on as sub and would miss a gilt-edged chance that would have secured a point or two. Missed every header by and large- usually hit his shoulder, but scored one from the edge of the penalty box against us last season.Vieria should have reached puberty before joining us- more lightweight than even your pet hate, Odegaard. Merino not one who should start for us when all are fit, impact sub if and when we need a goal.Trossard now 31 years old and again, one who cannot perform consistently or form a more threatening left flank attack with anyone from defence or attack (Arteta's right side bias not helping, admittedly). I wanted Semenyo for two seasons now, and he can play both sides. But, of course, Arteta wanted Madueke, who absolutely cannot play on the left. Havertz, like Jesus and Gyokeres is not a clinical striker. In fact, the former misses far to many sitters as we witnessed when we went out of both domestic cups last season.Jesus, in addition, cannot finish as he also admitted he's not a "natural" striker.
Palace saying they're going to start two different teams over their next two games, which means we'll get their first choice 11 after they've had a rested. They need to win their conference league game, so they'll pick the big boys for that. They're a comfortable 9th in the Prem table, so the Leeds game is where everyone gets rested. And they then all come back in against us for a cup blast.
It won't happen - but I would like us to play a complete second 11 against Palace. I have no desire to see us go hard against a fresh Palace in the Carabao Cup and we really need to protect our first choice side. At the very least, players like Rice, Zumbimendi and Timber need to spend the night sat in the stands. If Arteta isn't going to rest them in the league, he has to in a game we really don't need to care about.
Chelsea the best semi final draw for us (if we make it).
Playing Newcastle over 2 legs again would have been terrible and although I think we could beat City in a 2 game tie, I don't fancy an extra 2 games against them in a title race season with all the extra narratives around a tie like that.
Don't be funny. Our players get really inspired with that king high profile opposition. Never ever expect our players to play with the complacency they exhibit against the so called lesser teams
Without so much injury and tiredness around the first team, your statement would be absolutely right eg vs Spuds, Bayern wins happened before current state
That should have been a red btw. No joke. Last player, obvious foul. Schade is absolutely rapid and would have been 1v1 with the keeper. But no. Yellow and City score 10 minutes later.
Khusanov's face said it all. He knew he fucked up.
So why is there no VAR in the league cup exactly? Not all stadiums have the equipment I guess. So instead of having VAR wherever possible, they decide to not have it anywhere lol.
He doesn't carry a goal threat and I feel like we need players that can convert possession into goals, rather than Odegaard's penchant for just rotating the ball around the base of a horse shoe.
Our defense can't keep out goals now so we need to score as many as possible.
It's kinda insane that more hasn't been done about the amount of injuries Arsenal get. I mean we routinely criticized Wenger and Boro Primoric for years until they replaced him with Shad Forsyth and show a legitimate improvement and now a lot of those same people are quiet as lambs under Arteta. Very fucking weird
How is there not an internal review and heads rolling with the amount of injuries. Either the training methods aren't working or someone is conning a living at Arsenal
Rice is a big worry. He reminds me of Havertz last season. Everyone talked about how robust Havertz was. But he was literally played into the ground, broke, and has now been out for a long time. Ben White is the same. It would be criminal if the same thing happens to Rice.
One needs to show Mike and medical team the footage of Kai after each game last season, sitting on the ground unable to get up on his own and completely knackered. Yet, Mike takes him to warm weather training and beasts him to injury.
I feel for Kai, he and others keep trying to show Mike that they can push through games with pain. This expectation is hurting players literally.
we might have won a title if not for the injuries caused by Mike and his bewildering training methods. He a crock himself should know better!!
I like Kai although he does have some limitations. He does what he is told to do as best he can. HE is not going to get us 15 plus goals a season when fit though.
I am starting to think, do we need a striker to get us 15 plus goals? Our system is not striker friendly at all I feel.
We have our attackers pass round over and over until one decides to shoot. Heck even our LB tends to shoot more than other attackers and scores too.
It does beg the question as to what kind of striker would thrive in our system.
The same ref who’s got the Everton match.Dont hold your breath.

A video of all of the missed opportunities by Gyokeres. (I remember a big chance missed against Leeds at 0-0 https://x.com/PaSheikhnaS/status/1959298056072933652 so definitely not all of his misses )

Get a fucking job instead of wasting every single day of your life looking up Gyok stats and posting them here hoping to make internet friends.
No one is sad enough to ‘watch the video’ of his misses and then pat you on the head for sharing it on an Arsenal blog.
To be fair this video has had extensive coverage on X,,posted by Arsenal fans and tbh there are a number of failings in his play as also pointed out by Pedro (more than once)>

I don’t need pats on the head. Simply refraining from consistently calling me names or making personal remarks would be enough you massive twat.
You’re desperate for likes and pats on the head. It’s very sad.

I really think next season it’s time to exclude the PL teams from The Carabau Cup that are involved in Europe.
It would be beneficial to them and give other clubs a chance to win a trophy.
Palace saying they're going to start two different teams over their next two games, which means we'll get their first choice 11 after they've had a rested. Don't be funny. Our players get really inspired with that king high profile opposition. Never ever expect our players to play with the complacency they exhibit against the so called lesser teams
It's not funny at all
Without so much injury and tiredness around the first team, your statement would be absolutely right eg vs Spuds, Bayern wins happened before current state
Spirit could only carry so far
Plus staying in London during a busy schedule is ideal.
Is cherki signing of the season? Guys stats are insane and he passes the eye test on the field
Zubimendi. But Cherki has looked very good and was very cheap.
That was a blatant red for city
That should have been a red btw. No joke. Last player, obvious foul. Schade is absolutely rapid and would have been 1v1 with the keeper. But no. Yellow and City score 10 minutes later.

Shouldn't have needed Var... ref so bad even with blatantly obvious decisions
Just that, subconsciously, it's City and the red stays in the pocket... would be out for a lesser side
Crazy decision. Total bottle job by the ref
The same ref who’s got the Everton match.Dont hold your breath.
Pity no VAR
I wouldn't start Odegaard at Everton
He doesn't carry a goal threat and I feel like we need players that can convert possession into goals, rather than Odegaard's penchant for just rotating the ball around the base of a horse shoe.
Our defense can't keep out goals now so we need to score as many as possible.
You wouldn't but Arteta would,sadly
In the minute, Odegaard is so bad in creating ... one loft ball in c. 30 mins vs the mighty wolves?!

I mean we routinely criticized Wenger and Boro Primoric for years until they replaced him with Shad Forsyth and show a legitimate improvement and now a lot of those same people are quiet as lambs under Arteta. Agreed.Perhaps, they should get an ‘ independent’ review instead of marking their own papers.Totally amateurish. Not to say costly.

If it can be done ‘ independently’ Marko. They may not like what they hear.
The moaning over Arteta's team selection is getting so boring,
I'm not sure there"ve been any match day selection by Arteta that people didn't disagree with.
Spot on. There is some top-level coaches on here, especially with hind-sight.
Rice is def in the red zone, this fella also comes up limpy gimpy after games.
Zubi playing tons of mins
Norgaard not playing hardly at all.
WTF
CM might be an issue if we get a big injury here this season. God forbid Rice gets one
🤫don’t even go there.
Rice is a big worry. He reminds me of Havertz last season. Everyone talked about how robust Havertz was. But he was literally played into the ground, broke, and has now been out for a long time. Ben White is the same. It would be criminal if the same thing happens to Rice.

I guess you were under a log during the second part of the 2023-2024 season, so there's that.
None.
