Just a quick post today as we gear up for a MONSTER weekend of Cup Final good times.
Champions League had a ‘nature always finds a way’ moment in the round of 16. If you were a bad team this time, you were punished. As simple as that.
Newcastle, sitting 9th in the Premier League after conceding 42 goals in 30 games, were absolutely dismantled by Barcelona. 7-2 away from home is quite embarrassing… but so is watching English teams destroy European teams with absolute ease in the group stages.
Spurs faced the same fate. They should not have landed a pass into Champions League after finishing 17th in the Premier League. It is not good for the image of the Premier League's dominance to have a team like Spurs in a relegation battle while finishing 4th of 36 in the group stage. Watching the 3rd best team in Spain ease them out with 7 goals was a beautiful scene.
