The squad players playing poorly largely fails to mean anything when some of them are rusty as hell because they never get used

This is the age old Arteta trick where players he doesn’t fancy get sidelined for eternity, play a game due to an injury crisis, look mixed or out of sorts quite unsurprisingly and then Arteta lovers say SEE I TOLD YOU HES NOT GOOD ENOUGH

MLS was being talked about as a serious prospect to make the England squad only a year back. How match sharp do we really expect the lad to be when he’s third choice in his position and can’t buy minutes if he tried ahead of the players in front of him. Rice and Zubi wouldn’t be so gassed in the first place if we’d been willing to give MLS and Norgaard more chances. The notion that if your backup isn’t as good as your starting 11 players you should just pick your best 11 all season is honestly the dumbest thing imaginable.

The whole ‘the FA cup isn’t a big deal anyway’ mindset is total nonsense.

Top teams win big trophies and small trophies on the regular. No trophy is every guaranteed - and it’s by having a diverse collection over the years that you take a bit of pressure off in the seasons when you miss out on the big ones.

But this is also missing the point - the reason why we are under so much pressure to win a big trophy this year as do or die is because we bottled the big AND small trophies every time for the last 4 odd years. If Arteta won the league last season when it was extremely doable and won a league cup the season before, this season wouldn’t have been a do or die for him in the first place.

It is years of BOTTLING which have made winning big trophies this year so imperative - and suggesting that we shouldn’t mind bottling the smaller trophies as well is total folly. The CL anything can happen. As for the league, we’re in a good position but if we draw vs Bournemouth and lose to city, we are probably going to come second on the league. Were this close to bottling that too.

You said yourself a couple of weeks back that every game from now until the end of the season was a cup final. Well we’ve lost the first two cup finals already….

We played our first 11 in two semifinals and the final against Man City. Yet, the key objective was a big trophy.

I think you're trying too hard to explain these losses away.

Our starting 11 against Southampton was good enough to win. If they didn't win, we should be asking the person that should prepare them for the game. Mikel Arteta.

It's funny how some people turn up their noses at small trophies that we don't win because of big trophies that we also don't win.

Someone like Pep wins carabao and PL. So, it's not mutually exclusive.

We don't win small trophies. It's not our priorities.

We don't win big trophies. It's PGMOL, Guardiola, wind, etc.

Excuses, excuses, and excuses.

Pedro has been devoted to defending failure since Arteta walked in.

The domination you expected in 5 years has not happened in his 7th year, and may never happen.
