I’m pretty sanguine about not buying anybody. Clearly there wasn’t a market for what we wanted. I’m actually way more interested now in seeing who else is coming through the youth team. TBH it seems that Arteta does have an eye for youth and his judgement has played out. Nketiah, balogun, ESR, the great white hope Charlie patino all doing meh or not doing anything at all. If he’s backing a youth team player you KNOW he’s 100% the real deal. I hope that the next great innovation is Nwaneri having a go at CF to get through low blocks

Little bit disappointed that we couldn’t find anyone that could help our front line. Also, it would have been such a nice little addition to the positive momentum we created on Sunday.. Instead we are left praying we don’t get another bad run of injuries as we don’t have the cover navigate that. Extremely risky approach, but hopefully it pays off and we are able to make some big signings this summer.

In the final hour on deadline day, Spurs announced that they had sealed a short-term loan for Tel - with an option to buy in the summer for £46million on a six-year deal.

Tel had rejected Spurs last week — despite chairman Daniel Levy flying to Munich to meet him — then Chelsea, Manchester United and Arsenal made their interest known.

……..

I’m gonna be watching this space very carefully.

Let’s see how this kid adapts to English football.

Pretty big mistake to get no one. Never once subscribed to the whole it’s impossible to buy in January line that gets trotted out every time a team chooses not to. Plenty of teams do buy in Jan we just aren’t one of them

Regardless I’m very glad the window has closed. The will we won’t we uncertainty is annoying as hell because it leaves you with misplaced hope. Windows closed now so we’ve got our answer. It just better be the right one considering how risky it was skipping on a CF multiple windows in a row

On an aside, we are wondering where Ethan will play when Saka returns. Left field answer from me. He could play CF.

He is fast, can dribble, has great balance and technique. Links up with players well. He’s physically solid. Oh and whilst his game time has been very limited he’s literally got ALL the best offensive numbers per game in England this season

0.97 goals per 90. He takes more shots per 90 than any other Arsenal player. His shooting accuracy is 52% and most impressively of all he has a conversion rate of 30%.

It makes you wonder if once Saka is back we should seriously look at giving him games at CF and see how he does. Because the boy is born to score goals. Why not?

Height would be the apparent deficiency for Nwaneri as a 9

Expand full comment

Not necessarily

He’s not tiny and frail. His build looks pretty similar to Watkins.

But even if he’s a bit shorter, CFs who take up good positions, can dribble and have lethal shooting can always go to the very top.

Countless examples of them

Expand full comment

Ethan has those short legs, those great dribblers possess. Maradona, Messi, Santi, Silva etc.

He should be deployed IMO in the middle, when Saka is back. I know everyone sees him as Saka back up now, but because he is true 2 footed and a dribbler we can use him for our center attack. He offers much more than Ode I feel when it comes to goal scoring.

Put him a that false 9, or CAM lets see

Expand full comment

Safe to say Ethan needs to be made room for.

Same as MLS.

We might have to get creative but these boys must not be held back at any cost. They are going to be massive and they’re already good enough to easily justify inclusion in an Arsenal team that has its eyes on big trophies

Ethan is on the cusp of greatness.

Arteta has mentioned him as a potential CF.

Eventually.

thank you Pedro for a terrific piece! I could not agree more more, perhaps the important caveat that if Pool get the green light from pigmob and getting no cards, that is a huge huge advantage. The pen for Pool against Bournemouth is a prime example. Arsenal would have never been given that pen. so even without Mo with that kind of help for pigmob, it’s worth a 150 million striker, and Pool has this striker every match at hand, next season also, very difficult to compete against, but nothing is impossible COYG

Moaning about the window isn't going to do anything now. We have to back our players and hope for the best. I believe it was a mistake not bringing anyone and it will cost us at some point moving forward. But what is the point of moaning the rest of the season? Let's try to win these 14 games and see where we are at the end of the season.

You watch sport and support Arsenal to moan??! I’m all for some criticism where it’s due but consistent moaning is not the reason I watch or support arsenal. I’m convinced I’ve misunderstood your post though

Expand full comment

It isn't to moan about things you have no control over. Especially now when the club won't do anything about it with the window closed.

It is to enjoy watching the football. If we win, we will enjoy the performances, if not we will criticize the performances.

You know, I give Dissenter a lot of credit for pretending to be a reasonably sane person for a couple years, I mean I guess he was forced to that position because Arsenal were pushing close enough to the title that he couldn't be his natural moany self without sounding like an annoying cunt to everyone, but Arsenal taking a step back this season has unleashed that rage and vengeance that I'm assuming he typically saves for his big backed girlfriends right back onto the comments section. He's been acting like such a huge bitch the last couple months.

Nobody needs to take offense. Since Dissenter loves the big ladies, calling him a huge bitch is a term of endearment.

For a risk averse club, not buying anyone was highly risky in Jan.

I guess they feel that we can win the EPL and CL with this team

JW my guy please stop I sincerely urge you.

This frustration being voiced by many is not a

sign of disloyalty to the club or not being appreciative of the journey so far but a desire to seal the deal.

We’ve gone too long without a title. Waiting till next year may make things even more difficult as key players get older and other teams get stronger. This was supposed to be our year and we have not shown the killer instinct to recruit the right players and seal the deal .

Because people voice out these frustrations your go to default position is not name calling or asking for dissenting voices to be banned.

Have a debate on the merits of their frustrations and let’s all celebrate our club. I’m not talking about the ones who only and always see the negative spots but those who are desperate to win, and win now.

In the end we all want what’s best for the club

Just my two shillings ..

Cheers

"This was supposed to be our year".

No, it wasn't, and nineteen premier league managers will agree with me - nay, even the twentieth [Arteta]. What happened the previous season does not determine how the next season goes. Whoever wins or draws more games will win the title. Remember that Leicester narrowly avoided relegation the season before they won the title?

Christian-- we only agree occasionally. And that's supposed to be how it works.

When two posters come here the day after we trounce City-- with 30-40 posts apiece slagging Arsenal-- I take exception to why they're doing what they're doing here.

It's borderline obscene that two negative posters can derail one of the preeminent Arsenal blogs-- employing basic trolling.

I've been troll-killing on blogs for three decades. Know it when I see it.

Now the window is closed, there will be no excuses in the summer not to get everything you need this time. We have barely spent last summer and in Jan.

We need a striker, a winger and 2 midfielders minimum, and a GK. And we need to replace any one that leaves apart from Zinchenko.

you think somehow in the summer, the team will make the right decisions? What evidence do you have of that

I guess hope more than anything. We did spend 200m+ the previous summer before this one.

Everyone wanted a signing, i'd hazard a guess Arteta included. Is what it is a warm body won't suffice, I respect that on a certain level even though its a big gamble. I'll take that over a Kallstrom, Dennis Suarez, Pablo Mari, Cedric Soares or Yossi Benayoun deal.

Best January is not having to make a signing cause you've already done the work, that will be determined at seasons end. Siege mentality all in with what we got.

Christ the way the Marko's of this site take it on the chin makes me grateful these sad sacks don't actually suit up and game. We'd be fucked before the first touch.

Ya I'm disappointed as hell.. how could you not be? I definitely felt like we needed another attacker, mainly because I have completely given up on Sterling. He is in Willian territory to me. But not getting anyone this window does not necessarily equal no trophies. The same as if you spend 100 million it guarantees a silver pot.

Marko your ability to attempt this separation from the base as if your on an elite pedestal to utter we shall "deserve whats to come" because you scream the loudest and most would be fun to watch if it wasn't so dull at this stage. We get the pitfalls brother of going it with what we've got, trust me even in our remedial state to your all knowing super powered transfer thoughts.

Would Marmoush of helped sure, except he's on a higher wage than our entire side at City, Muani no thanks lacks the quality for me agree Kvaratskhelia would of been excellent who knows what the circumstance is and all that transpired to procure him from the mad men De Laurentiis. I'm guessing it was far more than the transfer records will state, like unknown quantity's of Petrus, keys to the Jizzy loaded with Siberian nightlife en route to the distant sands of a Qatari prince... that springs to mind. As for the bigger hitters nobody moved it was a barren January.

Liverpool signed Chiesa in the summer, nobody in January an Egyptian injury away from loosing 40% of our there output.
